Live waves, water quality and weather from University of New England buoys and stations in Saco Bay, Biddeford and along the southern Maine coast.
The last two weeks, hourly. Click a name under a chart to hide or show that buoy. Drag across a chart to zoom; double-click to reset.
At every buoy and station that measures it.
How salty the water is. Fresh water from rain, streams or rivers lowers it; full seawater is ~32–35 PSU.
Dashed lines: 5 mg/L (stressful for many fish) and 2 mg/L (hypoxia).
Significant wave height at the two wave buoys.
At the weather stations and the marsh.
Average wind at the weather stations. (The coast is usually windier than the woods.)
Hourly rain totals
Each station has its own detailed page that updates every hour: an X-band wave radar on Ram Island (an hourly 5-minute movie of the sea surface, boats and breaking waves), two Sofar Spotter wave buoys (waves, wind estimate, pressure, and Smart Mooring sensors) four BlueSonde water-quality buoys (temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and chlorophyll or tryptophan), two weather stations (Ram Island on the coast and the 363 Acre Woods inland, which also measures soil temperature and moisture), and two marsh and pond stations (Biddeford Pool salt marsh and Great Pond). Every page has a "What do these numbers mean?" guide. The complete raw archive is on UNE Box. This page reads the latest numbers straight from those dashboards each time it loads and refreshes itself every 10 minutes.
